Experience Rowing Through Learn to Row!

You can get an idea of what rowing is all about in just one morning, however to obtain balance, comfort and the rhythm of rowing it takes time on the water. Classes run from late spring into early fall.

We invite you to experience the joy of rowing with Wichita Rowing Association's instruction on the basics.  First, practice on the rowing machine.  Then, out to the river where you will practice sculling on dock rowers and take a seat in a boat to learn how to scull on the water. Our experienced coaches will guide you through every step of the way.

What to Expect:

Volunteers will be on hand to walk you through the each step.
  • Sign in and turn in necessary forms.
  • Get a tour of the boathouse and the boats.
  • Learn about different boats and rowing terminology.
  • Practice the rowing stroke on a stationary rowing machine.
  • Get in a boat and go out on the river with a volunteer rower.

Who can join?

The minimum age for participation is 14.

Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

The Riverside Rowing Center is located at South Riverside Park,  531 Nims Street, Wichita, KS 67203  (next to Tennis Center)

2021 Tentative Class Schedules

Class Type: Intro To Rowing

Cost: $30

A 2-hr intro just to get your toes wet (no pun intended) and see what our rowing program is all about.   Whether wanting a fun way to stay active or something more competitive, rowing is an awesome outdoor activity for all ages. However, it does take some movability to get in and out of a boat, so this class is a neat way to learn a little about rowing and whether it's a new activity for you!

Cancellation due to weather

WRA makes every effort to provide you with a safe and enjoyable class at the planned time.  However, sometimes weather or river conditions force us to reschedule on short notice. This is an outdoor sport and we will conduct the class in any weather except thunderstorms, very high winds or flooding of the river. If this happens we’ll work with you to make up the class at a time that fits your schedule. The instructor will contact you via email if the class needs to be cancelled due to weather.
