Experience Rowing!

You can get an idea of what rowing is all about in just 50 minutes, however to obtain balance, comfort and the rhythm of rowing it takes time on the water. Classes run from late spring into early fall. Our next classes are planned for late spring of 2018.

We invite you to experience the joy of rowing with the Wichita Rowing Association for a brief instruction of the basics of rowing on an ergometer. Then, out to the river where you will practice sculling on dock rowers and take a seat in the shell to learn how to scull on the water. Our experienced coaches will guide you through every step of the way.

What to Expect

Volunteers will be on hand to walk you through the different stations.
  • Sign in and turn in necessary forms.
  • Get a tour of the shelter and the boats.
  • Learn about different boats and rowing terminology.
  • Practice the rowing stroke on a stationary rowing machine.
  • Get in a boat and go out on the river with a volunteer rower.

  • The Wichita Community Rowing Center, 551 S. Nimms
  • South Riverside Park.

Who can join?

The minimum age for participation is 14. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.

When? Choose from one of the class times listed below:

Class Type
Adult Intro To Rowing:
Take this class first to get your toes wet (no pun intended) and see what our rowing program is all about. That way you have a chance to try it out. Whether wanting a fun way to stay active or something more competitive, rowing is an awesome outdoor activity for all ages. However, it does take some movability to get in and out of a boat so this class is a neat way to try out rowing before joining the club.

 Class Dates  Class Time
 June 2  9:00 am - 11:00 am
 June 23  10:00 am - 12:00 pm
 July 14  10:00 am - 12: 00 pm

Adult Learn To Row:
We recommend you take the longer Adult Learn to Row class to learn to row on your own. This class offers individualized instruction and a chance to take small steps so you are more confident to row on your own. If you have rowed before or you do other small boat activities you may just sign up for the longer class but it is very beneficial to take both and gets you more water time.
